"10"

We're visiting Vienna's parents this weekend in Wilmington, North Carolina. The live a few miles from the beach and took Jack out to the beach Thursday evening while Vienna, her brother Louie, and I went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (which was pretty good, but missed a few things that Vienna thought they shouldn't have lesed out). He had a blast and they said he was fearles- running into the water, getting hit by waves, and going back for more. They built sand castles and got soaked in their regular clothes because they hadn't actually anticipated Jack wanting to go in the water.

We decided to repeat the performance Friday morning, so we all got into our bathing suits and headed for the beach early in the morning. It wasn't too hot yet, and wasn't crowded at all, since not many people leave the house at 8:30 in the morning to hit the beach. Jack repeated his stellar performance, asking us to take him further and further out into the ocean, until we had no choice but to carry him because the water was too deep for him to stand. We all took turns holding his hand and jumping over the surf as it rolled in, the rest of us playing the part of very amused onlookers. He battled the waves nicely, running back to the sand to help Vienna build a sand castle and bring buckets of water in a fruitless attempt to fill the moat she dug around the castle.

He made a fuss when we had to leave because he wanted to stay and play, but we were all tired and geting hot (and Jack was the only one who actually wore sun block) so we headed back. We plan to go again this evening to help wrap up our perfect "10" of a weekend. For now, here's a picture of Jack at the beach that prompted the title of this post (Vienna made me do it):
