I'll handle that, Mom

Tonight, Jack made us really, really happy. Why? Because he learned to say Mama or Dada as if he had a clue what it meant? No. Because he snuggled on the couch with us and told us he loved us? Nope. Because he spontaneously decided to let us know when he was about to poop? Nah.

He learned how to put food in his mouth!

I have secretly been worrying that he is somehow mentally challenged since he doesn't like to mouth anything unless it's his fingers or mine. While other kids are putting everything they can get their little hands on in their mouths, Jack is picking them up and waving them around like Dr. Frankenstein celebrating a freaky science project.

But, tonight the kid came through. Last night he was attempting and getting much better, but still not there. Tonight, while feeding him chicken, broccoli, and elbow macaroni with spaghetti sauce, he just reached down to his high chair tray, grabbed a noodle, and popped it in. Of course there was much fanfare coming from my direction and he repeated this little trick over and over again. He got into a weird habit of needing to "talk" ("dadadada") before putting food in his mouth, but that didn't inhibit his ability to get the job done.

I called my mom, who says she isn't surprised in the least because she always knew he was a genius. But, for me, it was a huge, huge accomplishment and I am really happy for him (and me!).

We have uploaded a video to the Jack's Videos links to the right (scroll down).
