I Scream, You Scream

WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!!!

We had a Cold Stone Creamery open here recently and we've become great fans. Though it costs a small fortune to get ice cream, it's really delicious and keeps me in my plus sized pants! We always get two kinds- one we can assure that Jack can have because it has no nuts, and then whatever else we may want. We get a "Love It" size of each (which is far too large for one human) and eat one half there and take the other half home.

The next day we warm up the ice cream for a few seconds in the microwave and I sit on the couch with Jack and we share the nut-free variety. Over the weekend I got their "Cookie Doughn't You Want Some" which is absolutely awesome. Large chunks of cookie dough, mini chocolate chips, caramel, and French vanilla ice cream. Well, Jack liked it so much that he was twirling his hands in circles and saying "mmmmmmm" between bites- something he has never done before, even for his beloved grapes and avocado. It was hilarious to see, and I'm fairly sure he ate at least as much of the ice cream as I did.

Well, last night he came home and found a plastic spoon from the ice cream (there was an "incident" with the empty bowl, a full wine glass, and a klutz which allowed the used spoon to remain in the living room for 2 days) and went nuts. He grabbed it, started babbling very seriously and very rapidly and sprinted into the kitchen and started pulling on the freezer door. I opened it and showed him that we had no ice cream and told him "It's all gone," at which point he proceeded to bawl. It was really quite sad and compelling. So, we loaded him up and headed out for dinner.

We stopped at Quiznos which is next door to the Cold Stone Creamery and had subs for dinner. Jack brought his trusty plastic spoon with him and held it throughout the meal. He was so intent on holding it that he was too distracted to eat and I ended up dropping chicken and bread into his mouth as if he were a little bird (I skipped the pre-chewing).

After dinner we went next door for ice cream. When we walked in, he started wiggling and dancing and acting very excited. We got to the counter where there are three bowls depicting the available sizes for your treats displayed above the ice cream. Jack, with spoon in hand, lunged for the bowls and started talking animatedly again, shoving his spoon at the bowls dying for a delicious bite. Luckily, the kids at the shop (I'm allowed to call them kids, they were all teens) took pity on him and gave him sample after sample of ice cream on tiny little spoons. We tried Irish Cream, French Vanilla, Sweet Cream, and Oatmeal Cookie. Jack enjoyed every last bite, and was then unleashed on our ice cream with 3 plastic spoons- the one he brought and two tiny sample spoons.

He ate a bunch of ice cream, ran around the place flirting with the ladies, showed off for a girl in high school in some sort of athletic uniform, and was generally pleasant. He flashed his new fake smile around freely, sometimes with the ultra-cute Shoulder Shrug of Shyness (as displayed in the Easter photos). He had a great time, and anything that makes Jack happy makes me happy. And anything that makes Jack happy and gets me ice cream makes me thrilled.
