Redeeming Kid Quality #7

Before we had Jack, I used to hear some fantastic tales of what other people's kids would say and do and I was always amazed at the things they could come up with. Not just the "gotcha" moments that we see on America's Funniest Home Videos where a kid repeats something that a parent would rather they didn't, but really funny, and sometimes insightful things. Whether it was my baby brother asking my mother if she needed an hors'd'oeuvres when she was sick or my friend's daughter obsessing over the "Virgin Muhdder," there were some hilarious stories to be told.

At three years of age, Jack has not disappointed my ideas of having a little person around to say crazy things and make me laugh. Tonight our conversation ranged from SpongeBob to cemeteries to Martin Luther King and whether or not he is a real king that lives in a castle to the dietary and bowel habits of Jack's favorite animal, the gorilla. One particular moment of zen in the conversation went as follows:

Jack: "What happens when you die?"
Me: "Nothing." (Hey, he caught me off guard.)
Jack: "Where do they put you?
Me: "In the cemetery."
Jack: "When do you wake up?"
Me: "You never wake up."
Jack: "You wake up for a long time. Dying is in your imagination. Don't shoot Martin Luther King."
Me: (hysterical laughter, because I have no idea why he decided to randomly proclaim the thing you must NOT do with historic Civil Rights leaders during our discussion.)
Jack: "Does Martin Luther King live in a real castle? Is he a King?"
Me: (still laughing)
Jack: "What is his name?"
Me: "Martin Luther King."
Jack: "No, the man who shot Martin Luther King."
Me: "James Earl Ray."
Jack: "I never got shot by James Earl Ray. It's not nice to shoot people with real guns, only with pretend guns."
Me: "You're right- never shoot anyone ever."
Jack: "Do gorillas fart?"

And on from there. Man I love this kid.

    OMG -- that was hilarious.

Kelly, who is very much looking forward to our inauguration day meet up and play date for the boys!
