Realism
Last night Kyle needed to go to the book store to get a book before the coupon he had expired. Since it was already 7:30, Jack and I decided to wait in the car while he went in so we could get home and go to bed. Jack asked me if he could have a cookie (the usual book store treat) and I said "If you're lucky, Daddy will get you one." The following dialogue then ensued:
J: "Daddy, will you get me a cookie?"
K: "Maybe."
J (insert crestfallen voice): "He's not."
The kid has already learned what Jack Johnson sings about: "Seems to me that Maybe... pretty much always means No."
(Don't worry, grandparents, he got the cookie and ate half of it on the way home.)
