Mad Skillz from the Mad Man
In the evenings, Kyle and I often turn to ourselves in amazement as to what the kid is doing. He's growing and learning in leaps and bounds, sometimes busting out a new skill that we didn't even know he was practicing. Some of the new things that we see from the boy:
-Verbalization skills. He's been a "talker" for a while, but it's really amazing how much he knows. His new teacher (he's moving to the 2 year old room next week) told me how amazing his vocabulary is and that he chatters all day long. (And she didn't even seem to find it annoying!) He's forming sentences to express his desires such as "take sock off" and "drink water please" and "build house please." He asks me "louder, please" in the car when he wants me to turn up the volume and just said "Ready. Set. Go!" before dumping a box of puzzle pieces on the floor. There is generally little to no question as to what the boy wants.
- Counting. He just likes to count things. He often counts 1-2-3, 1-2-3, but this morning he was making strawberry pancakes in his Dora kitchen and counted out the 5 strawberries he put in the pan nicely. He can go up to 12, fumble around with the teens, toss in a 15, and then he's done. He can also count to 4 in Spanish, but generally prefers 8. Uno, dos, tres, OCHO! Ocho this and Ocho that. The boys loves Ocho.
-Location, location, location. Jack always seems to know where we are in the car. Even if we've been somewhere once (like Andrew's house for his birthday party) he can remember the road on the way there. He can tell you once we're in 200 yards of any of the following places: Cracker Barrel, Costco, Books-A-Million, Food Lion, Los Toltecos, Target, his Pediatrician, Cold Stone Creamery, and Michael's. Other than Food Lion and Costco, he squeals with glee when we approach any of the aforementioned places and tells us (over and over) the name of the place (or what the place sells, such as "ice cream") until we pull into the parking lot and get out of the car.
This is a very exciting time for us. He seems to be learning new things every day and it's such a joy to see him putting all of the crazy pieces of the world together in his mind and expressing the things that he is starting to understand.
