Various Musings of an Almost Two Year Old

Things that Jack is able to articulate to us lately have been growing at a rapid pace. Things that he tells us? He hates Costco. Doesn't want to go. We know this because Every. Single. Time. we drive by, he says "No Costco. No Costco." We torment him by asking him if he would like to go to Costco and he always says "no no no!"

He also tells us when things are not to his liking. If he finds a bottle that he managed to leave laying around, he says "Old. Sink. Sink" and puts it in the sink. He also proclaims that things are "Eww," "Yucky," or "Dirty."

We were looking at photos and he said "bottle, bottle" because we had one of he and Kyle laying in bed and Jack had a bottle. I asked "where is your bottle?" and he said "bottle right there" and pointed to it as if I were obviously blind and/or stupid.

Just a few minutes ago he was flopping around on pillows he had thrown on the floor, stood up and said "Knock Window" and made a motion as if he were knocking on a door. Then he went to the window and knocked and giggled about it. We have no idea where that came from!

He doesn't care for the dark, and we aren't really sure why. But, whenever it is dark he says "ooooh. Dark scary." He doesn't seem like he doesn't want to go into the room, but certainly is a little aprehensive about it. He also does ask for "Light On" in those situations or says "Step stool" and goes to get his step stool so he can turn on the light himself.

He tells us if he wants to watch TV. It's either "Watch Wiggles" or "Watch Choo-Choo" usually. Lately, he's been asking to "Watch Baby" which is in reference to a fairly silly show with a baby that does various things and always needs your help. The other afternoon we watched an episode (about 5 minutes each) and he turned to me and said "Watch Baby again." Awesome.

Tonight he was crawling on his rocking chair and slid down between the arm and the side. He got stuck and called out "Help me!" so I had to go and wrestle him out of the predicament.

He also tells us that he loves to ride in the Explorer. For some reason he thinks it's the best thing ever and always asks "Ride Truck" or "Truck Key." (He can actually tell the difference between the truck key and my VW key- calling them "truck key" and "mommy's key.") The other morning Kyle left in the truck for work and Jack stood at the window crying "My daddy" which was drawn out more like "my daddeeeeeeee." It nearly broke my heart but gave Kyle a big boost in the esteem department to hear about it.

And lastly, just for Kelly, when we got him out of bed this morning, we asked him if he had a dream and he said "yeah." I asked him what it was about and (I swear I am not lying) he said "moon." I can only guess that he perhaps overheard me reading Henry's Blog and maybe thought that "moon" and "dream" must go together. Or... kids really do dream of the moon!

In any case, we're approaching an age where we are anxiously anticipating the "Out of the mouths of babes" moments where Jack truly tells others what is on his mind (and what is coming out of our mouths!).
